About Us

At Pokolbin Estate we offer a range of premium wines and a sensual selection of gourmet foods at our Hunter Olive Centre. Where possible, our foods and wines are locally grown and produced in the hunter using only the best produce available.

Our wines are exclusively handpicked and crafted from the grapes grown on our Pokolbin Estate. Our multi-award winning boutique style wines are meticulously crafted and balanced yet maintain their elegant structure. Our wines include Semillon, Riesling, Rose, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Tempranillo, Shiraz and Fortified all of which can be tasted and purchased at our cellar door.

With a historic stone cottage cellar door dating back to 1889, a freakish competition record, a reputation for producing outstanding wines - particularly with their Riesling, Semillon and Shiraz, the Hunter’s only vineyard growing a dry Riesling and one of the largest speciality food outlets in the region, Pokolbin Estate Vineyard is a destination not to be missed.

Here at Pokolbin we offer a friendly personalised service while still maintaining high levels of sophistication. Pokolbin Estate Vineyard has been awarded over 400 medals and Trophies in major wine shows in Australia.

    Pokolbin Estate Vineyard was first planted in 1970 comprising of the Hunters more traditional wine varieties such as Shiraz, Semillon and Riesling grapes and was developed to showcase true varietal character. Our sister Vineyard was planted some time later in 1999 and not conforming to the tradition styles elected to propagate wine varieties with a more  Mediterranean influence such as Tempranillo, Sangiovese and Nebbiolo,

    "The Cottage"

    A Scotsman by the name of Allan originally built this Australian colonial Cottage now the Pokolbin Estate cellar Door in 1889, on a property adjoining the Hunter Valleys first vineyard planted by James Busby in 1831. The old ‘Kirkton’ Vineyard at Lower Belford.
